Mendenhall cousins

Hermiston opens up the season Friday in Walla Walla. Cocah David Lewis says his goal is to win the Intermountain Conference in 2007. Last year, they finished third with a 5-2 conference record and 5-5 overall, but the entire backfield for Hermiston is returning for this season.

Yakima is getting an af2 indoor football team. Same league as Tri-Cities Fever and Spokane Shock. "Putting one more team in a geographic region will not only be great for the teams but Yakima also," said Brady Nelson, a member of the league's executive committee.

Sunnyside opens up this weekend against rival Grandview. They went 1-9 last year, but they've got a returning quarterback and high hopes.

PREVIEW: Pasco H.S. 2007 football team

Traditional 4A powerhouse Pasco lost a ton of talent to graduation, but still managed to be ranked number one on several state preseason polls. Coach Steve Graff could care less.

"I put no stock in it whatsoever," smiled Graff at the team's first practice Wednesday. "I don't know what they base that on. The expectations are the same every year. We need to be in the playoffs and playing towards that final game."

"There's only one thing on my mind: winning the league and winning state," said receiver Justin Perez. "We have the team to do it, we just have to come together."

Prosser Southridge Saturday

Prosser, minus star QB Kellen Moore (Boise State) will still be allright against Southridge. Most people feel The Mustangs are still better than most 3A schools, and the Suns are unproven. That one is a 7:30 kickoff at Lampson Saturday night.
Huge games this Friday. It all starts Thursday night, actually. Hanford at Davis in a great non-leaguer. KNDU/KNDO has the highlights at 11:00.
